Painter/Zone Maintenance Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect work site to determine procedure, material and equipment needed to complete assignment.
  • Repair plaster and/or finish surface to prepare surface for painting. Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, brushes or steel wool and apply paint. A scraper, wire brush, blowtorch or power washer will be used for removal or use of aerial lift.
  • Erect scaffolding or setup ladder, if the job requires working at elevated heights.
  • Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixture of furnishings, building and other structures. Paint surfaces using brushes, spray gun or paint rollers. Apply paint with cloth, crush, sponge or fingers to create special effects, if required.
  • Hang and/or repair wallpaper.
  • Install, tape, sand and finish sheet rock. Install metal studs, suspended ceiling and insulation.
  • Install carpet, vinyl floor tile, ceramic tile, quarry tile etc
  • Make recommendations to supervisor projecting project costs and time needed to complete a job.
  • Inspect periodically and/or schedule, repair and/or replace any house equipment or systems as required.
  • Maintain a neat and clean paint shop area.
  • Oversee part time summer help.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel or others within the Facilities Department at the direction of the Director of Facilities.
  • Perform routine maintenance and up-keep on maintenance department equipment and tools.
  • Seek training to enhance or learn new skills.
  • Remain accessible and available in the event of emergencies, or when needed to meet the ongoing mission of the college including On-Call Rotation.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record, be punctual and meet deadlines.
  • Promptly report accidents on the job, and report to Environmental Health & Safety.
  • Adhere to all safety standards and work practices established by Facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Other Skills

    1. Knowledge of procedures and techniques of the painting trade at a journey level. 2. Knowledge of washing and cleaning procedures and techniques including surfaces and equipment. 3. Ability to operate hand tools and vehicles common to the trade. 4. Ability to perform repairs requiring a basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, locksmith and general mechanical work. 5. Read and interpret schematic drawings, blueprints, diagrams and manufacturer s specifications. 6. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing and must be able to take instruction from either. 7. Some overtime is required and vacation approval may be limited during peak activity periods.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Education and Experience

    Requires a high school diploma and five (5) years of experience in contract painting or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience, which fulfills the needs of the College. Must possess a valid driver s license.

    Physical Requirements

    1. Possess normal vision and physical dexterity. 2. Ability to climb and work from elevated heights. 3. Ability to do some heavy lifting. 4. Must be able to stoop and bend for long periods and in confined and tight spaces. 5. Physically capable of strenuous activity and lifting large bulky items. 6. Requires above average physical strength for heavy lifting.

This relationship needs to be pleasant, supportive and professional, while maintaining confidentiality as needed. Workers are occasionally required to perform work not related to their specific trade.

    Don't Be Fooled

    The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
